Architecturally and historically distinctive, this sacred space has been beautifully restored and
offers some of the finest examples of hand-carved Adamesque gouge-work in the city.
It is the birthplace of Phoebe Pember, writer and maverick spirit. Acclaimed by historian Shelby
Foote, she is a Civil War heroine, author of A Southern Woman's Story, and contributor to
Harpers Magazine.
