The Oak Park Inn Hotel was originally known as the Carlton Building. The land was purchased in 1900, and the building was completed in 1904. Throughout its history, the Carlton building has housed multiple businesses including the Desoto Health Department, Miss Gertrude's Dress Shop, the Postal Service, and historical photographers, as well as doctors and lawyers. The building itself is on the National Historic Registry.
The Cravens purchased the building in 2004, visualizing a perfect location for an Inn Hotel. While remodeling the building to hold the 11 bedrooms and one Suite Inn, The Cravens took the building down to it's "bones", updating the electrical and plumbing, while adding a bathroom to each room. In the restoration, the Cravens took great care in preserving the hardwood floors, the wainscoting and the door frames to each room including the window transoms above the doors. Upstairs in the Social Area, there is a wonderful sky light and a fire place, making it the perfect location to sit & relax, visit with friends or make new friends. When you stay at the Oak Park Inn, expect to be pleasantly surprised by the size of the rooms, as well as the uniqueness of each room! All of our rooms are complete with wireless internet, a flatscreen TV with a built in DVD player, and air conditioning/heat. Each room also has a coffee maker and all bathrooms are equipped with a hair dryer. Our social area is available for all of our guests to use at their leisure. We have comforable seating surrounding a fireplace and a large skylight. Included in the social area is a complimentary collection of DVD's for use in your room.
The Oak Park Inn does not have a kitchen, so we offer a breakfast coupon for you to redeem at one of two downtown resturants as a breakfast choice. If you are wanting a great cup of coffee and a light breakfast, Last Chapter Coffee House is right across the street. If you want a full "down home" kind of grub, than Wheeler's Cafe is the place for you!
At The Oak Park Inn, pets are welcome! We understand how important your pets are to you, therefore we allow you to bring your pet(s) with you when you stay.
