Map of The Zororo Retreat
|
Welcome to Zororo (which means 'rest' in the African language of Shona), a luxurious and
relaxed holiday retreat deep in the peace and quiet of rural Central Portugal. Nestling in the
stunning countryside of the Serra de Lousa on the slopes of the River Ceira, well away from
over developed tourist locations, we cater exclusively for people who wish to enjoy time away
from the stresses of daily life (and children!) whilst in the company of others who appreciate
delicious food, great local wine and excellent conversation in well-appointed surroundings.
The 5 bedrooms, all doubles with en suite bathrooms, are generous, air-conditioned and
centrally heated, each with a balcony; most have views across the valley to the forest opposite.
The main living areas are floored in Italian Travertine marble, the fittings are of oak, leather and
wrought iron. There is a large dining room and guests living room, whilst below is the games
room, with a pool table and bar football stand, small library and LCD TV with a stock of DVDs
and videos.
Your stay includes breakfast and the option of a delicious evening meal, with aperitifs, fine wine
(including reds from our vineyard), and coffee, in the company of your hosts Kevin and Tanaka.
In the gardens around the villa you will find our new 11 metre swimming pool, with it’s mosaic
sunning deck of granite and limestone, and a hard surface tennis court, whilst our vineyard with
lemon, nectarine, orange and kiwi fruit trees lie below.
About us:
Zororo represents an ideal opportunity for people to mix with others and have access to all the
benefits of a peaceful retreat set in the unspoilt 'green heart' of the Portuguese countryside. The
experience encourages the chance to connect and share with people who have similar
interests, in a tranquil, warm and calm environment supported by good food, excellent wine and
stimulating conversation.
Further information about the holiday and ourselves may be found in the Your Hosts. If you are
still uncertain as to whether or not Zororo is the right place for your next trip away, please don't
hesitate to get in touch (see Contact Us) and we will endeavour to provide further details openly
and honestly.
Facilities:
We offer a selection of alternative opportunities to enjoy for those who have seen enough of the
local sites for one day.
In the fresh countryside air we have an enclosed tennis court and our swimming pool with
sunbathing area, whilst in the games room you will be free to test your skills at American pool
and table soccer, or you could just lay back and enjoy some music, a good book or a DVD in the
lounge.
Alternately, catch up with friends and family by using our free WiFi Internet connection.
Location:
In the UK, the average population density is 354 people per square kilometer where as in
Portugal it's only 114 people. In the area surrounding Zororo, it's just 21 people per square
kilometer!
The valley and the surrounding hills and mountains, are some of the loveliest and most striking
in Central Portugal. Much of the land is heavily wooded, only the flatter valley floors being
cultivated on a modest and sympathetic scale. The area is dotted with tiny villages and a few
more substantial towns.
Whilst the roads have been much improved in recent years, bends still outnumber straights 10
to 1. Traffic jams and rush hours simply don't exist and there will be long periods when you
won't see another car.
Local people are incredibly friendly and helpful, particularly if you can learn to use a few
Portuguese words. The climate is warm and sunny from late March to early November
(temperatures peak around 37°C in August), with enough rain in the winter to keep the
vegetation green throughout the year.
Accommodation:
Our elegant and sunlight filled bedrooms are described and pictured here. The upper storey
contains our 5 guest bedrooms, whilst on the middle floor can be found the main kitchen,
dining room, lounge and owners accommodation, all reached via the wide spiral staircase. The
games room, garage, second kitchen and wine cellar are below that, with the outdoor kitchen
on the patio beyond.
All the flooring in the communal areas is off-white Travertine marble; the staircases are in
locally crafted wrought iron and Spanish light oak, whilst most of the furniture and fittings were
sourced from Milan in Italy or hand made in Coimbra.
Also in this section there are descriptions of the bedrooms, meals, the prices for next season,
and a booking form. Please note that the charges include breakfast, daytime drinks and the use
of all the facilities mentioned.
Rooms:
All five of our bedrooms are air-conditioned, individually decorated and larger than standard.
The en-suite bathrooms are stylish with modern Italian designed fixtures and fittings.
There are fitted wardrobes, luxury beds and attractive furniture; the French doors lead out to the
balcony, where there are views over the valley with it’s river, across to wooded hillsides and the
local village of traditional Portuguese housing.
For the convenience of our guests, each room is supplied with two dressing gowns. Hairdryers
and beach towels are also available.
