Whether it is the call of nature or the need to get away from the city, Glenking has what you
need to rest and revitalize you and your family. This 1000 square foot log cabin lies in an
opening next to a woods that teems with wildlife - both avian and mammal. It is located 60
yards from the owners' house in Carroll County, Ohio, near Minerva but within easy driving
of nearby cities.
Glenking is fully weatherized with central heating and AC as well as paddle fans, and
indoor entertainment ranges from TV to radio and DVDs, so if it should rain during your stay
you can be entertained or entertain yourselves with board games and books that are
available.
In addition to wonderful sleeping accommodations we provide at no additional cost:
A breakfast that is brought to the cabin the night before by the owners in response to your
answers to the menu. You are free to heat and eat breakfast at your leisure. We feature
organic tea and coffee, the latter purchased locally at Rostas Roast. Fresh baked cookies
will await you in the cabin upon check-in and we have sample menus for the best of the
locally available restaurants and will assist you in making reservations if you wish. There is
a phone in the cabin so you can make local calls and receive long distance call from the
folks you left behind. Cell phone sevice is available for most of the popular carriers, but you
may have to move around the property a bit to get good reception.
This area turns out to be quite good for geocaching games. We had a family with us last
December that went geocashing for half a day and found 5 different caches! The children
were thrilled!
A one-acre pond serves for swimming and fishing, and rods and bait are available. The
major feature is the woods - mostly pine and deciduous trees of wild cherry, maple, hickory
and beech - which provide groomed trails and lots of chattering birds.
While there are restaurants available, you may wish to eat in. There is a full kitchen with
microwave and outdoor gas grille. And pure, filtered and tested well-water makes water-
drinking fun again. You don’t need to bring bottled water.
Other outdoor entertainment includes badminton, volley ball, basketball, horseshoes or just
watching the grass grow! The bureau in the living room is full of board games in case of
rain and a high quality sound system and DirecTV are yours to use. You simply do not have
to be bored at Glenking.
Glenking is very rural, but Minerva is a charming village of 3800 souls and is 10 minutes
away. Nice shopping facilities including an IGA market, and the usual assortment of drug
and other stores will fulfill your needs. A well-equipped YMCA is available to our guests at
no charge because we partner with them in fund-raising. The public library has a good WIFI
system you may use without charge. Personnel are helpful and courteous.
Amenities:
Because of the single bathroom, we advise that persons renting at Glenking know each
other reasonably well. There is a cozy warm shower, and plenty of linens for drying and
snuggling under at bedtime. There are two bedrooms - one each, equipped with a Queen
size and a full size bed and a neat loft that young people fight over. (But it is accessible only
by steep stairs.) We have accommodated four in the loft but three works better. So, if you
have a small crowd of up to seven, Glenking Cabin is the place to be! There is also a "pack
and play" for the young sleeper. When you rent at Glenking you rent the whole cabin, all
linens are furnished of course, and we change towels every fourth day and bed linen as
desired.
You will enjoy our provided breakfast each morning of your stay, and the full kitchen is well-
equiped with pots, pans, paper products, microwave, and coffee-maker for cooking any
other meals you might wish. A propane gas grill is available on the porch. In other words
you are equipped at Glenking as well as you would be at home, so just bring yourself and
your clothes.
All rooms are cozy in winter and cool in summer thanks to A/C and furnace. Breakfast is
provided.
A woodburning stove sits in the middle of the living room to add to the rustic atmosphere,
and wood is provided. In warm weather you can use the outdoor firepit in front of the cabin
to have a festive outdoor campfire. Kids love smores and singing silly or not so silly songs
around the campfire. But if you left the kids at home in hopes of having time alone, the tight
cozy log cabin is great for that too. Sleep in, have a leisurly cup coffee in bed then ease into
breakfast at YOUR speed!
Cabin Policies:
* Check in time is from 3:00 to 7:00 PM, but we are flexible on this. Please let us know
approximately when you will arrive. If we have an evening commit-ment and you will be late,
we will leave the cabin unlocked with a note. Check out time is 11 AM.
* Smoking is permitted only on the cabin porch. Not in the cabin or in the woods for obvious
reasons.
* Payment: Personal checks and credit cards are acceptable. You may hold your
reservation with a VISA, MC, or DISCOVER . If you cancel your reservation more than 2
weeks in advance of your reservation date there is a $25 penalty. If you cancel 30 days or
more before the reservation date, there is no penalty. 14 days or less before checkin date
will cause a forfiture of the whole cost of the intended stay.
* A reservation made within two weeks of the date must be paid for in full. This is necessary
to comply with the reality of B&B rentals.
* Alcohol is not served, but you are welcome to bring your own. Video and CD players are
furnished as well as DirecTV (R). Some tapes and CDs are furnished, so if you have
favorites you are welcome to bring them with you.
* Children are welcome at any age, but there are certain hazards (like poison ivy or steep
steps to the sleeping loft) that may be a problem for young children. Swimming must be
supervised by adults and is at the renters' own risk.
* We have a loft that will sleep up to 3 young people as well as the two bedrooms, but
access is by steep steps to the loft. We must limit the total number of guests to seven.
* We are proud to say we recycle at Glenking and will expect you to sort cans and glass into
appropriate containers and to refrain from using disposible dishes by using the ones
furnished. If necessary, an additional fee may be charged following checkout to cover
excess refuse disposal. If you must bring bottled water please crush the plastic bottles!
(our land fills do not need more plastic). "If it recycles, we recycle it". As loyal Americans we
hope you will join us in reducing electricity usage and stress on our landfulls.
* Well-behaved dogs are welcome (1 per party please) but we expect you to let us know if
you are beinging a dog. Dogs MUST stay off all the furniture. There is a $7 per day charge
for dogs, and the owners are responsible for any additional cleaning costs that may be
required after they leave.
* If you need to make special arrangements, please let us know and we will try our best to
