We are located in Pittsfield Township just 3 miles south of Oberlin College campus and
the historic town of Oberlin, Ohio which some refer to as 'the town that started the Civil
War.' With that in mind, we have combined the history of Oberlin and the Civil War with
the historical artifacts that we have collected over the years to create our Civil War
themed 1830 Hallauer House Bed and Breakfast.
We are Oberlin's Historical and Environmentally Friendly Country Inn! The perfect
alternative for overnight accommodations!
While exploring our web site, you will discover that we have our own on site exercise
facility, swimming pool, sauna, music room and whimsical garden where you can relax
by the rushing stream, run your toes through the sand on the mini beach, or just wander
the paths and take time to smell the roses.
We cater to the business traveler and welcome Oberlin College parents, College
conference attendees, Oberlin College alumni, prospective students, and ALL GUESTS
who are looking for a place to getaway so they can relax and recharge. Those looking for
an all inclusive package will find that we now offer seven distinctive and exclusive
packages.
Our 4 course breakfasts are complimentary, first class gourmet, and served informally
in a formal dining room setting or out by the pool in the summer sunshine where you
will enjoy the singing birds and the fluttering butterflies.
History is often the number one topic at Hallauer House, especially the history of
Oberlin, Oberlin College, the Underground Railroad and the Civil War. Other historical
towns just minutes away and ready for exploring are Avon, Amherst, Wellington,
Lagrange, and Grafton. And don't forget the great Lake Erie, just 15 minutes north,
where you can enjoy boating, fishing, or just relaxing on the beach.
Oberlin is a small college town home to many unique retail stores, antique shops, and
first class restaurants. There are musical and/or theatrical venues presented almost
every weekend, a 13 mile bike trail to wander down, a world class art museum and a
renowned museum of local history to explore. The Lorain County Metro Parks and
Findley State Park are first class. You will leave wanting more!
So be sure to stop for a visit on each page of the web site to see the guest rooms, check
the amenities, find a special or package, delve into history, get a peek at the gardens,
and see what Oberlin and Lorain County have to offer. You won't be disappointed! We
look forward to greeting you as a guest and having you return as a friend!
Rooms:
The Confederate Room
Southern exposure, Southern charm, Southern elegance! All await you upon your arrival
into the Confederate Room. This is the room that Jefferson Davis or Robert E Lee might
have found rest in. As you sink down into the queen bed you can almost smell the roses
in the garland draped through the canopy over head. Snuggle into the quilts, pull out a
book and read about these gentlemen of the South.
As you walk to the private bath or to the guest refrigerator to grab a soda, scrunch your
bare toes into the thick Oriental carpet. If you prefer relaxing in a chair as you curl up to
read or talk, choose either the love seat sofa bed or the Amish made cherry Windsor
chair.
Gaze out one of the five windows and imagine what the scenery was like in the 1800's.
Were there many trees? Where exactly was the road? What was around the bend? Let
your imagination wander to the past as you view the beauty of the present.
The Union Room
Garden view, morning sun, and French country style are yours in the Civil War themed
Union Room. Enjoy the sunshine as it pours in through the many windows and look out
to absorb the view of the pool and gardens. Climb into the antique country French
birds-eye-maple bed, sink into the pillows and quilts and recall the days when life was
slower and so much different. The period clothing and Union uniform hanging on the
doors, the antiques, old books and the Civil War sword give you a hint as to what the
past might have been like. Soak up the warmth of the Union Room with the country red
walls and soft Oriental carpet. Even the large private bath will warm you with the
sunshine streaming through the skylight as you prepare for the day or evening. Relax in
the country French chair or love seat sofa, grab a complimentary soda from the frig and
kick back while you absorb what your life might have been like in the days of the Civil
War.
The Mason/Dixon Suite
The Suite is comprised of 2 rooms with over 550 square feet of living space!
One room has a romantic queen canopy bed that can be completely made private
behind a curtain screen. The connecting room is large enough to have a queen bed, a
full bed, and a sitting area with 2 upholstered chairs and a love seat sofa! You will have
a hard time choosing which bed you would like to retire to but whichever it is, you will
enjoy a comfortable and restful nights sleep.
Before retiring for the night, relax and soak away your stress in the romantically lit corner
Jacuzzi tub. Use the unique basin sink sitting atop an antique Birdseye maple chest and
get a glimpse of what it might have been like to use a pitcher and bowl in 1860.
With a satellite TV in each room there will be no disagreement over which TV program to
watch! Enjoy a garden view from one or all of the 20 windows in the suite. This is the
perfect place to spend a weekend getaway and experience the hotel alternative!
