Stoney Lonesome Bed and Breakfast ( Crown Point, NY )
Hello! Nancy and I invite you to visit our eco-friendly Crown Point Bed and Breakfast
nestled between the towns of Ticonderoga, Schroon Lake and Port Henry in the
Adirondack Mountains of Northern New York State. We offer green lodging that has a low
carbon footprint because we utilize solar energy for our electrical power. Our alternative
energy system is sufficient for air conditioning in the summer and all the amenities year
round.
Enjoy a wilderness experience with the comforts of home. Relax in a warm, spacious,
Civil War era farmhouse on 200 acres. Hiking, climbing, camping, boating, canoeing,
white water rafting, mountain biking, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, fishing and
swimming are all minutes away. The Pharaoh Wilderness area, less than 5 miles to the
south, contains many thousands of acres of mountain forest filled with numerous lakes,
ponds and streams.
The Bed and Breakfast is just 10 minutes from Lake George, a 32 mile stretch of water
considered one of the most pristine and scenic lakes in the country. Just as close is
beautiful Lake Champlain which stretches 123 miles along the eastern edge of the
Adirondack State Park. The region is rich with numerous historical sites that take visitors
back to the turbulent times that gave birth to our nation. Many of these locations attract
reenactment enthusiasts from across our land.
In addition to all of this natural beauty we are at the center of a ring of small cities about
an hour away. Plattsburgh, Lake Placid, Glens Falls, and Burlington, Vermont all offer an
excellent mix of outlet, antique and craft shops, restaurants and sports events as well as
theater, arts and other cultural and educational activities. We are also less than three
hours from the major city of Montreal and less than a days drive from anywhere in the
northeastern United States and southeastern Canada.
A hearty breakfast is served with personal attention by your hosts John and Nancy Ockrin.
We offer guidance to local recreational, historical and cultural attractions, special events
and fine restaurants. Our home provides a unique lodging experience reflecting the
nature and character of our family life.
Accommodations
Spring RunoffWe purchased our house before we were married, before it had running
water or plumbing of any kind, and before it was wired for electricity. When we discovered
it, it had been empty for over 25 years.
Though it was built during the civil war era, it was still strong and sound, and we began
to slowly occupy it one room at a time. As our family grew the house became a home and
was filled with the sounds of many children -- six in all, five boys and one girl.
Now, many years later, the rooms have started to empty again. We love this region -- the
streams, ponds, lakes, hills and beckoning mountains. It has been a wonderful place for
our family to grow up. The thought of filling these rooms again and sharing the blessings
we have enjoyed with others gave birth to the Stoney Lonesome Bed and Breakfast.
The Common Spaces
A big family requires a lot of common space to gather. As we restored the house we
created a huge kitchen, dining and sitting area, and an even larger living room. These
common areas are available for our guests to enjoy, and to relax and socialize in.
Outdoors we have a comfortable covered front porch with benches and Adirondack
chairs. It is an ideal place for people to gather, talk and experience the evening sounds,
smells and sights. We also have a large deck out back with two large picnic tables from
which you can see and hear our stream and gaze up into a night sky filled with an
unbelievable array of stars.
The Guest Bedrooms
If there is a theme to the bedrooms we have available, it is that they are a testimony to
our children and their families. The rooms bear their names, or they reflect their activities.
Enjoy Our Hearty Country Breakfast
Each morning we serve a delicious country breakfast. The entrée will be the chef’s
choice. It changes daily but the food is always plentiful, hot, and nutritious. Special dietary
needs and preferences are accommodated. The kitchen opens at eight AM each
morning.
A typical menu could include:
# Dad's Famous Scrambled Eggs:
# With onions, green pepper, ripe tomatoes, cheddar and other cheeses, sour cream,
and a secret blend of spices. Mom's Famous Breakfast Casseroles
