The Cheapest Bed and Breakfast (B&B) Guide
The Cheapest Bed and Breakfast (B&B) Guide
The Manor House contains nine romantic and elegant guest rooms which are beautifully
decorated with period antiques and fine furnishings.  Many rooms have working wood burning
fireplaces. All have private baths. Wireless high-speed Internet access throughout the Manor
House.

The Oliver Cromwell Suite:
The finest room we have to offer. The suite occupies the entire first floor of the 1840 addition to
the Manor House. Climb up into the king-sized four poster bed, cocooned by sheer panels,
and luxuriate in its 18-inch-thick mattress and extraordinary goose down pillows while you
enjoy a wood-burning fire. A large sitting area with a "walking wheel" spinning wheel (original
to the house!) overlooks the beautiful front yard and 4000 acre Black Rock Forest Preserve.
The bright marble multi-level private bathroom is 15' by 17' and features an oversized Jacuzzi
for two, double sinks, a bidet, and even a Stairmaster.  Perfect for honeymoons and
anniversaries, this suite also makes a great place for dressing and pictures before a
wedding. A 32" television over the mantle of the fireplace will help you to stay up on current
events.  Two private entrances.

The Arcarian Suite:
This luxurious room, on the second floor of the mansion, occupies the full depth of the
building, allowing windows on three sides. An elegant cherry King four-poster bed with a
reproduction crocheted canopy is the centerpiece of the bedroom. Sitting in it, body and spirit
are warmed by the fire at your feet. Comfortable seating, a game table, and a view of the rear
lawn add to the ambiance. The private marble bathroom is exceptionally large, and features
an antique claw-foot soaking tub, and a traditional shower. A 32" television over the mantle of
the fireplace will help you to stay up on current events.  Thickly carpeted and very quiet, an
ideal romantic retreat.  Jack's favorite room in the inn!

The Canterbury:
Opposite the parlor in the mansion, this oversized, first floor room is graced with 12' ceilings
and 11-foot windows, newly finished 1820 pumpkin pine floors, as well as an original marble
wood-burning fireplace. A Queen-sized four-poster bed overlooks the front lawn and veranda.
A 32" television will help you to stay up on current events. The room is furnished with a white
antique couch and comfortable chair, and features deep red Ralph Lauren wallpaper. Two
steps down in your room to a full private bath with coordinating wallpaper and shower curtain.

The Wellington:
Spacious, stately, first floor room featuring newly finished pumpkin pine floors and an antique
Queen-size four post bed.  Relax in a comfortable leather recliner warmed by an original
marble wood-burning fireplace.  A 32" television will help you to stay up on current events. The
bed coverings and window treatments are of a traditional style in a green tapestry fabric with
vibrant red and gold threads, which complement the yellow walls and intricate white floor and
ceiling moldings. An impressive 11-foot-high door leads into the large private bathroom
decorated with rich green and gold Schumacher wallpaper. The view from the windows is of
the side lawn, including an impressive bank of rhododendron. Of special note, both the room
and bathroom are completely wheelchair accessible.

The Derby:
This corner room on the second floor of the Manor House, with its large private bathroom and
many windows, is quite popular. The walls are a saturated hunter green, with khaki and red
trimmings. An inviting antique-reproduction fire stove warms the room and your mood. Queen
sleigh bed and private bath.

The Storm King Room:
From the front windows in this corner room, you have a fantastic view of Black Rock Forest
Preserve.  Extremely quiet, oversized room with a canopied Queen bed, it can accommodate
additional travelers on the twin daybed and its trundle. White walls with evergreen trim,
furnished
with a very large  double-door mirrored armoire, a cozy arm chair, an antique dresser and
several wall sconces. The private bathroom has a small French window, deep red floor tiles
and a shower curtain that matches the canopy of the bed and window curtains.

The Windsor:
A spacious, second floor room with a high ceiling, featuring an open canopy Queen-size bed,
comfortable seating, newly refinished wide pumpkin pine floorboards, and antique
furnishings. Ample windows overlook the rear lawn of the Manor House and the walls are
painted a relaxing soft mauve. Two steps down in your room to the airy private bathroom with
"Monet-like" wallpaper in watercolors. The Windsor, The Storm King, and The Derby are ideal
for three couples traveling together.

The Saffron:
White walls and many windows create a cheerful, airy room trimmed in blue and yellow. From
the Queen-sized sleigh bed you gaze past the grand columns of the portico to the  4000 acre
wooded mountains, with nary a house in sight. The room is furnished with an antique cane
rocking chair, a comfortable arm chair, and a flame mahogany dresser. The private bathroom
is complemented with a small rosebud print wallpaper which coordinates with the bed linens
and bright shower curtain. Second floor.

The Shetfield:
Our least expensive room, but still spacious and comfortable with a private bathroom. The
color is reminiscent of "ashes of roses." The room is furnished with an antique double bed
featuring a six-foot-high headboard, an antique desk, and a mahogany lingerie chest. The
front windows overlook the impressive columns of the portico, and the lawn and fields beyond.
Second floor.

Chimneys Cottage

Built in 1764, contains four comfortably-furnished guest rooms with private baths. Frequently,
the Cottage is rented in its entirety for parties and family gatherings.

The Beddingfield:
Wonderful first floor cottage mini-suite with a Queen-size Tempur-Pedic mattress on a
four-poster bed. Find out why this pressure relieving Swedish mattress is so popular!  The
room contains an impressive stone wood-burning fireplace with the original mantel, oversized
leather gentleman's desk, small paned French windows, original wide floor planks and
exposed ceiling beams. There is also a separate sitting room with a comfortable Queen-sized
pull-out couch suitable for traveling companions. The entire suite is painted in sage greens
and tans to compliment the colors in the stones of the fireplace wall. The tub in your private
bathroom has decorative designer tiles. Cynthia's favorite room in the Inn!

The Hambleton:
On the first floor of the Cottage, this room has personality! From the Queen-size sleigh bed
you may enjoy the warmth and romance of a wood-burning fireplace with the original 1764
mantel.  Next to the fireplace is a marvelous free-standing claw-footed soaking tub. Duck
around the chimney to the full private bathroom with a shower stall, deep red floor tiles and
original wood-plank walls. The room offers a magnificent view of the mountainside and fields
directly across from the property. Please note, the ceiling is low at 6'7" (people were a lot
shorter in 1764!).

The Oxfordshire:
Climb an interesting flight of stairs to this unique, oversize room with a Queen-size bed
decorated with quilts in red, white, and blue. An inviting antique-reproduction fire stove warms
the room and your mood.  The room has a 20' high "A" frame ceiling with original hand-hewn
exposed beams and hand-pegged joints. The original wide floor planks are softened by a
richly-colored oriental carpet. Skylights enhance the natural cheerfulness of the room. The
large bathroom features hand stenciling. Please note, 6'4" clearance to beams.  With this
room, you may choose to add The Gables, a smaller room under the eaves that contains twin
beds. It shares a bath with the Oxfordshire, so is suitable only for traveling companions.

The Gables:
The perfect room for traveling companions who desire separate beds.  Skylights add natural
light and cheerfulness.  Coupled with the Oxfordshire, the ideal combination for the traveling
family.
