The "B" Street House Bed and Breakfast ( Virginia City, Nevada )
Indulge yourself and be pampered with warmth and hospitality during your stay at the “B” Street
House Bed & Breakfast in the heart of Virginia City, Nevada. We offer the simple restorative
pleasures of rest, relaxation, good food and natural beauty set in the elegance of the Old West.
Built in 1875 by Henry Piper, the “B” Street House underwent an award-winning restoration in
2007 to a three-bedroom guest inn. Now, finely appointed in period antiques and reproductions,
the “B” Street House, located just a short block from downtown, will transport you to the charm of
the Victorian era in the Silver State.
We serve an exceptional full breakfast featuring seasonal fruits, home baked breads and
pastries, and a hot entrée which changes daily. At tea time, sample fresh cookies, snacks,
gourmet coffee, assorted teas, and cocoa selections served in the parlor.
All “B” Street House guest rooms are upstairs. All rooms feature private baths, queen-sized
beds, cable TV with DVD player, free high-speed internet, ceiling fan, private thermostat, fine
chocolates upon arrival, and other amenities. Each private bathroom has a tub/shower
combination. Two rooms have large windows with picturesque views of the city and surrounding
landscape. Our middle room features a skylight.
Downstairs the parlor/dining room and well-stocked library invite you to peruse local
newspapers and books about Nevada and the American West. Or, sit in the sunny five-pane bay
window and enjoy the bustle of B Street. A fine selection of family entertainment DVDs in the
library are ready for guests to enjoy in their rooms. And at your request, your hosts will be happy
to crank the antique Victrola for a musical treat.
Your hosts, Chris and Carolyn, encourage guests to feel at home in the parlor, library and
outdoor garden area. The garden area is still being developed, but features an ancient
cottonwood tree, young fruit trees and evergreens. It is adorned with many flowers and bird
baths. Look for butterflies and quail as you bask in the serenity of the Victorian style garden.
Guest Rooms:
Sam Davis Room
The Sam Davis room is our largest guest room. Fronting on B Street, the tall picture window
provides the famed 100-mile view of Virginia City and central Nevada. Decorated in stylish tones
of blue with Eastlake furniture, the room has a sitting area, antique armoire, and queen-sized
bed with “sleeping on a cloud” comfort.
Named for Samuel Post Davis, a guest in this house in 1878, you will enjoy the spacious charm
of this ample guest room. Sam Davis, a reporter for the Virginia Evening Chronicle in 1878, went
on to local fame as the editor of the Carson City Morning Appeal, and later served as a Nevada
State Controller. In 1913 he edited a history of Nevada. His poem "The Lure of the Sagebrush"
graces the wall.

Uncle Henry's Room
Uncle Henry would have enjoyed this coziest of rooms decorated in rose red. This guest room
features a sky light to help you enjoy the starry night sky and northern Virginia City views. This
room overlooks the gardens. A clothes armoire, queen-sized bed and, of course, private bath,
will make your stay a comfortable and relaxing one.
This room is dedicated to all the Uncle Henry’s out there. Every family has one; legendary as
“free spirits”, talked about at length. My Uncle Henry rode an Indian motorcycle through every
state in the Union in 1926....because he could.

V&T Railroad Room
Can you hear the whistle of the Virginia & Truckee Railroad? Facing west, this spacious guest
room boasts a large window with expansive views of towering Mount Davidson. When the sun
sets, listen carefully for coyotes in the hills around town. Decorated in the restful colors of
Nevada sage, you may even view the sagebrush on the hills west of town from this room. This
is our second-largest room and holds an armoire for clothes, queen-sized bed, comfortable
wing-back chairs, and furnishings in historic style.

Parlor / Library
The parlor has a rare five-pane bay window. Virginia City boasts over 300 days of sunshine
every year. Enjoy your afternoon cookies and tea in the bay window overlooking B Street. The
parlor also features an antique Victrola for your musical enjoyment.
In the morning we serve coffee and baked goods at 7:30, followed by our full gourmet breakfast
at 8:30.
If your curiosity about Nevada extends to its unique history, you will not be disappointed in our
library. A wide selection of newspapers and books about Nevada and the American West adds
to your relaxation at the "B" Street House. Additionally, a fine collection of family movies on DVD,
and popular board games are available to our guests.
Gardens
Carolyn’s love of history extends to the garden where we have planted antique bearded iris
(pale yellow and purple varieties) as well as Rip Van Winkle daffodils (introduced in 1884) and
Poet’s narcissus (dating to 1831). Many of our roses are antique varieties including an 1870
Alba, a single white rose.
Our gardens feature a mixture of plants native to the Nevada high desert and imported species.
All are arranged in a style reminiscent of the 1880s. We feature roses, fruit trees and
evergreens, lilacs, butterfly bush, and a wide variety of flowering bulbs. Spring and summer are
the best time to visit to see the flowers in full bloom.
A visit to Virginia City in the spring showcases the old yellow "Mormon" roses which grow
almost wild on the hillside. Nevada is home to more species of butterflies than any other state.
Quail and deer are frequently seen on the slopes of town.
