Located in San Antonio, Florida, the St. Charles Inn is within one hour of most central
Florida attractions.
The St. Charles Inn is also available for parties and receptions. One local couple
celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in the same dinning room where they held their
wedding reception.
History:
The Inn, formerly known as the St. Charles Hotel, was built in 1913 by Mr. and Mrs.
Charles Barthle. It was widely known for its' hospitality to commuters on the Orange Belt
Railroad, which came through San Antonio. Many visitors came and stayed for the winter
season. Word soon spread about the family atmosphere and delicious meals prepared
from their garden. In later years, when the hotel was operated by their daughters Barbara,
Bernadette, and Dora, the hotel was the scene of many lovely wedding receptions. Due to
their failing health, the hotel was sold in the 1970's to Henry and Irene Pike and became
an adult care facility. Later, it was owned by Steve and Doris Miller who opened a
restaurant and ice cream parlor.
Following a number of years of sitting idle, the hotel was purchased by Ted and Anne
Stephens who, with the help of Ted's father, Jim Stephens and their sons Tacy and
Hunter, have restored the grand structure to its' original glory. With many of the original
antiques and many they have added, the inn has become Ted and Anne's family home, as
well as a gracious bed and breakfast. Guests can enjoy Anne's impeccable decorating
touches or just rock away on one of the porches and smell the aroma of the many fragrant
plants, some original and some newly planted.
Rooms & Rates:
The St. Charles Inn offers three rooms for guests. The rest of the house is where the
Stephens family lives. There's also a large parlor with a fireplace, a music room, and a
vivid russet dining room where guest can enjoy their breakfast.
Country Room - $125.00 per night
* The Country Room has twin beds with a night stand made from three well-worn
suitcases Ted Stephens' aunt used when she played in a women's league in the early
1940s.
Blue Room - $125.00 per night
* The Blue Room has a queen-size brass bed and white wicker chairs.
The Country Room and the Blue Room share a bath.
Camellia Suite - $150.00 per night
* The Camellia Suite has a bedroom, sitting room, and bath.
Note: Charges based on double occupancy. $35 additional charge per extra person.
Rates may vary during holidays.
Policies:
Check-in is from 3 - 6 p.m.
Check-out is at 11:00 a.m.
Rates:
$100 - $140 plus Florida State sales tax. Personal and Travelers checks accepted. Rates
are subject to change. Gift certificates are available.
Charges based on double occupancy. $25 additional charge per extra person. Rates may
vary during holidays. Please call or email innkeeper for rates.
Reservations:
Reservations only and are confirmed upon receipt of one night's deposit. Deposit will be
happily refunded or applied to new date if cancellation is received at least seven days prior
to your scheduled visit. Deposit is applied to last day's stay.
No Children under 12 years old.
No Pets - You can share ours.
No Smoking - For the comfort and safety of our guests, the interior of the inn is a
non-smoking environment.
Quiet hours begin at 10:30 p.m.
