Rainforest Retreat ( Roseau, Dominica )
Welcome to our Dominica and Rainforest Retreat - cottages in the heart of the Roseau Valley.
We are secluded in an area called Shawford Estate but the locals call it "Doshan" which
means "go find it".
We are five minutes from Trafalgar Falls, Titou Gorge and Watten Waven hot springs. Five
minutes in the other direction and you are in the city of Roseau.
Both cottages are constructed of local hardwood with screened windows and porch and a
ventilated peaked hip roof. The bedrooms have queen beds made of local bamboo and
Casablanca fans (although the breezes in the Valley provide natural air-conditioning), a full
kitchen and hot water bath with bidet. The living room sleeps two.
The cottages have cable television and phone/fax lines.
About Us:
We are a newly built cottage community en route to Trafalgar, facing the village of Morne
Prosper.
Priding itself on its casual yet elegant buildings and planted grounds, the centerpiece of the
estate is a 20'x40' spring-fed swimming pool.
Our cook, Emma, written up in the Orlando Sentinel, will prepare gourmet meals to your
specifications, vegetarian or using free-range chickens and goat, fresh fish, as well as fruits
and vegetables organically grown on the property.
We have an abundance of root vegetables, yams, dasheen and potatoes. These are all very
helpful for women in change of life.
If you like desserts, ask for one of Penny's cakes!
We can arrange yoga classes for beginners through advanced levels.
We offer spa services at reasonable rates, manicures, pedicures, salt scrubs, massage.
The building project was designed with loving care and a view to making everyone
comfortable. Although Oliver is Dominican by birth, he spent 38 years in the United States.
When he brought Rachel to Dominica in 1995, she fell in love with the island and they began to
repatriate in 1998. In 2002, Rachel became a Dominican citizen. Because they are an
interracial couple, they tap both the culture of Dominica and the sophistication of the first world.
We can arrange for all island tours, on land and sea or a rental car, with or without a driver, for
you to tour the island.
Docked, for your leisurely pleasure, is the newest addition to our family, a 34' Cabin Cruiser,
"Loving Kindness" waiting to take you on a pleasure cruise. She accommodates ten for day
trips and sleeps six for overnight island hopping.
Rachel and Oliver welcome you to Our Dominica on the Nature Island: The
Jewel of the Caribbean.

Oliver this was one great party and I really appreciated the fact that I had the opportunity to
enjoy it with you - although I was a bit late. I do hope you live to see many more years to come.

What an amazing place! We had such a great time celebrating your big birthday. Let's do it
again soon! The island is spectacular and the wooden cottage was perfect. Thanks again to
our generous hosts. Regards to Rusty :-)

Not yet but will!!!!
After recently taken some vacation time with the owners of this retreat, and having visited
Dominica previously, I wouldn't hesitate to focus a vacation in or at the "Rainforest Retreat".
Hope to see you there as well sometime in the future.

Thanks to Rachel and Oliver for allowing us to have our yoga retreat at your beautiful retreat
center. Between the 2+ hours of yoga each day, the refreshing swimming pool, home cooked
island meals, and the excursions to waterfalls, coral reefs, hot springs, etc. it was the most
relaxing vacation I can remember!! And special thanks for the delicious chocolate coconut
birthday cake. I hope I can celebrate future birthdays with you, too!

Wow! This was not a vacation. It was a treat! Dominica was spectacular and Rainforest Retreat
was the perfect place to set oneself down to explore this lovely island paradise. Rachel and
Oliver were the perfect hosts - not overbearing but they made us feel comfortable and very
much at home. Our cabin was comfy and very airy - the birds sang us to sleep each night and
the cool, island nightime breezes kept us comfortable all night long. We'll definitely be back.
