Red Rooster Ranch is a small family ranch with a guesthouse, designed in French-country
style and geared towards writers and artists (in fact, we also host writer/artist retreats through
the Arts Ranch of Colorado). We offer guesthouse accommodations, designed for independent
travelers seeking a retreat rather than a tourist destination.
The rooms are B&B-beautiful (thanks to our previous incarnation as a Bed-and-Breakfast): we
offer elegantly-rustic accommodations between Glenwood Springs and Carbondale, focusing
on the gorgeous and authentic setting. In the European tradition, the guesthouse is
"self-catering" rather than offering the full service of a bed-and-breakfast or inn.
We have four guest rooms in the guesthouse, two rooms (for couples) with private bathrooms
and one two-bedroom suite designed for groups of up to four. We offer package pricing for
two-day, four-day and week-long stays; there is a two-night minimum at all times. Breakfasts
are included on weekends.
Located in the Western mountains of Colorado (about 45 minutes from Aspen), hiking and a
variety of outdoor activities are abundant. Our focus is on quality in the European tradition,
including self-serve breakfasts (on weekends) featuring homemade muffins, fresh fruit, French
Roast coffee; all-cotton linens on feather-topped beds; handcrafted soaps; and an atmosphere
reminiscent of a European country house.
Accommodation:
We have four guest rooms in a private guesthouse situated out in the countryside; weekend
breakfasts are included in the prices. The two downstairs bedrooms each have a private bath
and either a King bed OR a Queen bed (one bed per bedroom) and are suitable for a couple.
The two-bedroom/one-bath upstairs suite can accommodate up to 4 persons.
The guesthouse is connected to the private main house where the host family lives. Our
children and pets (dog, geese, chickens and horses) are always on the premises. Because of
resident animals, no guest pets are allowed. While most people find a pastoral tranquility here,
it is not the silence of a monastary. Kids playing, dogs barking, geese honking, an occasional
ATV or tractor motor are a regular part of the soundtrack. Work on the premises (landscaping
and ranching machinery) is a daily presence.
Lodging at the Red Rooster Ranch Guesthouse can best be described as a retreat. While you
will have a private bedroom, the guesthouse is set up for interaction with other guests. Since we
also host Artist Retreats, you may find someone set up in the kitchen working on a novel or art
project. Most of our guests and visiting artists/writers share a certain artistic sensibility.
The guesthouse is out in the countryside, "away from it all" - 15 minutes on country roads to the
nearest town - and we offer plenty of outdoor areas (a koi pond, two gazebos, large terrace,
large yard). Hiking and biking are available right outside the door, but you will need a car to get
to town.
